Sydney Australia is putting on the Sony Tropfest, which was almost a bust because of the rain. Australian cinema lovers came none-the-less to the Short Film Festival. While being simulcasted to Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Hobart and Perth, a group of thousands still camped waiting for the event.
While claimed as a "phenomenon," 710 entries were made to reach the top. Rabbit Proof Fence, from director Phillip Noyce was the winner of last years event. The event had such a large crowd that one of the judging panelists stated, "If I could get as many people as this in one night to see one of my movies I could think about retiring."
